Merritt J. Seshul MD, FACS, FAAOA

Dr. Merritt Seshul is a partner at Carolina ENT/HNSC, and has served as medical director of the Otolaryngic Allergy department since his arrival in 2001. He has also served as Vice President of Carolina ENT/HNSC from 2002 to 2017, and currently serves as a Board member. In addition, he served as Chairman of the Board at Viewmont Surgery Center from 2009-2015.

Dr. Seshul is Past President of the North Carolina Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. He is a graduate of the Leadership College Scholar Program through the North Carolina Medical Society, having been selected in 2008. In addition, he has served on the Board of Governors for State Public Education for North Carolina. Dr. Seshul has participated as a State Tracker for North Carolina for the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery (AAOHNS) and currently serves on the Nominating and Leadership Development Committee for the North Carolina Medical Society.

In addition, he serves on the Board of Trustees for the North Carolina Medical Society Employee Benefit Trust, which funds the North Carolina Employee Benefit Plan. This health plan is the 6th largest in North Carolina and provides group health, group dental, and group life benefits to eligible employees.

Dr. Seshul is a member of the medical staff at Frye Regional Medical Center, Catawba Valley Medical Center, and Viewmont Surgery Center. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Seshul completed additional training to obtain Fellowship within the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy and has been certified since 2003.

Dr. Seshul's involvement in allergy research lead to the publishing of his Triologic Thesis on Otolaryngology-Head and clinically relevant methods of allergy testing. Dr. Seshul currently carries a clinical appointment as a Clinical Associate in the Department of Otolaryngology within the Wake Forest Baptist Health Center.

A native of Nashville, Tennessee, he graduated from Samford University with a degree in Biology with honors and received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. His surgical internship and residency were completed at the UAB hospital system in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Seshul is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAOHNS), the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy (AAOA), and the American Thyroid Association. He is a Fellow of The Triological Society and a member of the Newton Fischer Society. He has been a reviewer for Laryngoscope for original research related to allergy and rhinology. He has been an examiner for AAOA Fellowship for many years.
